Montana

On our trip to Glacier Montana, we were able to see many sites and even got the chance to do a 20 mile backcountry camping trip that is a very hard trip to get “booking wise” and to complete. They said out of the millions who visit glacier every year only 500 or so complete the whole trip. Day 1 we drove up going to the sun road and to big bend turn out and made our way back down to stop at haystack falls, the weeping wall, bird woman falls, Red rock point where chris jumped in the water, then down to trail of the cedars in avalanche lake, and finished our day off with dinner at Lake McDonald and hung out at the lake. Day 2 we took the bus to St Maries & Virginia Falls and spent the day hiking. Day 1 of 4, the start of our 20 mile backcountry backpacking trip, the trail is called Gun sight pass. we had to catch the bus at Apgar visitor center and get dropped off at Jackson Glacier overlook which is the start to our trailhead. As we started our first 6 miles to gunsite lake we didn't even get a mile in and ran into a ranger who informed us that there was a bear & her cub sighting at the falls ahead earlier in the day and to just be on alert. We never saw it but for a mile of our trip we hiked though berry shrubs as high as us and chris said he seen some fresh bear tracks in the mud. Once we got to our camp we had our first encounter with momma and baby goat at the lake and they followed us so we had to go back to our tent and fall asleep. I was woken up by this sound outside our tent and i tried not to panic and wake chris up, so chris got up with the gun and hoping it wasn't a bear outside the tent he opens the zipper and jumps out with the flashlight and scares the crap out of this deer who was licking our hiking poles because they love the salt from our sweat. Well chris scared it with it still in its mouth and it jumped about 30 feet and he had to chase it to get it back which is funny to think about. Day 2 of 4 we started our next 5 miles to Lake Ellen Wilson it was a beautiful hike with lots of memories. It was very difficult at spots because the first part was all uphill and so many switchbacks once we made it to the top of the hill we got to take a break at  gunsight pass trail shelter house, then it was all down hill to our next camp. Day 3 of 4 to Sperry Chalet 3 miles, and it was the hardest 2.5 miles of my life, it was all uphill rocky, no shade, and little to no water source, and it was over 100°, i wanted to give up and just quit but Chris kept telling me to keep going and on top of that there was no easy way out and no easy way to be rescued. Once we made it to camp it was a big relief knowing that we had one more day left, we could see Lake Mcdonald and that we made it to camp with more time to just enjoy the area. we were able to hang at the Chalet for coffee hour and have some tea and watch a beautiful sunset over Lake Mcdonald. Day 4 of 4 Our last 6 miles final miles to go. We woke up and had a great lunch at the Chalet and started our last end of our trip. It was all down hill but one spot with an uphill switchback. We were so happy to see the lake and knowing we only had 1 mile left we started to run downhill with our hiking poles, hoping we wouldn't lose our footing. It was such a huge relief knowing we had just completed one of the hardest hikes we have ever done and knowing that not everyone can do it or only choose to do a day hike of it. We are so proud knowing we are stronger than we thought we were, knowing we have the mindset and willpower to do it. We completed it and not a lot of people can say that.
